On the 19th, we celebrated Jennifer, Soo Ling and Hanna's birthdays in Madam Kwan's KLCC. :)

Genting Highlands

Hi again. No matter how hard it possibly could be, I'll try my hardest to keep my blog updated. :) Near the end of December 2011, in an inpromptu trip, WJ, YH and I went to Genting Highlands to enjoy the cold weather. Seriously, I can't remember the last time I've been there. I don't have much time so I'll let the pictures do the talking, as always.

For the 2 days we were there, the weather was freezing cold like this!

Had McD and played poker around 2.30am. Got crazy. :)

3 in the morning, freezing, and there were still many people around.

Next morning. Went to the outdoor theme park but many rides were closed due to the weather.

On the way home, Eugene wanted to eat at A&W so we went to the one at Giant Taman Connaught.

Later Ming Hoe and I had char kuey teow and pearl milk tea at the pasar malam haha.

It has been some time since my last post. This post is about the moment I have been waiting for for 8 months. It has finally arrived. :)

Welcome to MAHSA's DDS 2011 !

The reputable bigshots.

Three in the picture looked like they have dozed off. They were playing with their cellphones lol.

To get to know my newly made friends, we have got to have FOOD.

Euro Deli at Damansara! Pork knuckles and roesti with bacon and onion. Yums.

Of course, the 5 of us came all the way here for the gigantic MATTERHORN BURGER.

Which was shown on YouTube and fantasised by Gerard who brought us here.

It looks bigger being compared to our dear feminine heads. :p

Waited for an hour, hungryyy!

It was DELICIOUS.

Thick juicy pork patty, lots of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and cheese in between butter toasted buns.

Another picture to demonstrate how huge it was.

Every one of us had a tough time finishing our part.

It was expensive but was worth the price. And the servers were so friendly and helpful!

I would definitely return. With more people. :)

And the real challenge begins..... DENTISTRY.

Sakae Sushi @ Leisure Mall

Sakae Sushi again. This is my favourite place for quick and good Japanese food. :)

Feast your eyes on the sushis hahaha.

Fried salmon was so good we had two plates of this. The salmon was tender and moist.

Even better with lemon squeezed all over!

Inari (sweet beancurd) sushi with crabstick, fish roe and mayo. Delicious.

Octopus sushi.

Salmon sushi with fish roe and cheese slice. Doesn't taste as good as it looks.

Forgotten what is inside but with those salmon slices, cucumber and fish roe, delicious!

I think octopus sushi with egg omelette and fish roe. Spicy but not one of my faves here.

This was yummy! Smoked salmon sushi with mayo.

Prawn tempura sushi with sesame, fish roe and mayo. I didn't like this as I didn't like sesame.

Just wanted to try as it looked good..

Inari with some meat, I think fish and cheese.

The gyoza on the belt was very disappointing. Small and cold. I've tasted better ones.

We love the chawanmushi here! The steamed egg was delicious!

But the quality is not standardised sigh. The previous one clearly has more sharks fin and mushroom.

I also love their udons! This is udon with teriyaki chicken. Tasty!

Udon with sweet beancurd also delicious.

My fave sushi here would be this dragonroll. I made this many times on my iPhone game app Sushi Go-Round and before Sakae I didn't know this really exists lol! Inside was crispy and the avocado slices on the outside was delicate and has a very nice flavour. Really lovely combination.

Matcha (green tea) ice cream. Pricey for one small scoop. Little Tokyo one is more creamy and milky.

Haven't been here for a long time! And we've got complimentary syrup drinks and sweet dates but we didn't eat them heh.

Their mushroom soup is average. Creamy with small bits of mushroom.

WJ's seafood and macaroni with cheese was delicious! I love the gooey cheese.

My dory fillet with cheese and tomatoes was a letdown. :(

The dory fillet was smothered with grounded black pepper which was too strong.

And they were so stingy with the asparagus, they sliced each into half. The baked potato was nice.

We also had a slice of their tiramisu cake and it was good! I could taste the strong aroma of the coffee.

Susan's Bistro @ Mahkota Cheras

I think this is the second post on Susan's Bistro but I definitely came here more than twice. And I'm sure I've mentioned Susan's Bistro in many other posts for comparisons too. This is my favourite place in my area for western food.

Anyway, this was the time I treated my family after getting my pay. It was a long time ago. :)

I love their garlic cheese escargots!

Tender and odourless meat in delicious cheese with chunks of garlic.

Their mushroom soup was just mediocre.

Bro's fries was good.

Iced chocolate, yummeh.

Bro drinking a huge glass of soda! It was an illusion.

My dad decided to be humble and go with this spaggheti with tomato sauce. :(

I made the names simple okay, I can't remember! :p

And my bro, the opposite. -.- Salmon with fettuccine something. Delicious.

My mom's lamb shank. She liked it but I didn't really like the gravy. Mashed potato was yummy.

Wai Kheng's carbonara with bacon strips. So many delicious beef bacons in delicious sauce yums!

Wai Yin's salmon that comes with a sauce I've forgotten the name! And I think I like the sauce better than the salmon itself! The combination is perfect. So DELICIOUS.

My meal. Dang, I really forgotten what this is. MY MEAL. Chicken something I think!

And my favourite tiramisu dessert in the world! MUST HAVE. Not too sweet and not too thick.

Delicious and easy to eat with just one layer of sponge fingers. Definitely the best around.

Like I've said, I wanted to treat my family but my dad called for the bill which totalled to RM250 plus but he allowed me to pay only RM50 and he covered the rest sigh. He's always like that. But there are more to come! I just hope to spend more time with each and every one of them because a moment like this is rare and precious. I love spending time with them. They are just so busy with everything. :(

And I came here a few times with Wei Jen too. :)

Must concentrate while eating delicious food! :p

Very Thai @ Times Square

We were in Times Square again and wanted to try something new so we came to this Thai restaurant. Their Thai servers are very hospitable, true to the claim printed on our serviettes haha.

They are opened by Sea Cuisine which also manages Amarin Heavenly Thai, Bangkok jam, Thai Thai, Celadon, Just Thai, Absolute Thai, Basil and other outlets.

His favourite is Thai food. Tomyum specifically. :)

Tom yam seafood in fire pot was delicious! The soup was orange in colour and the aroma of lemon grass and lime leaves were strongly present. Flavourful yet not too spicy.

Pandan chicken! Tasty.

Kangkung belacan, WJ's favourite vege dish. The vege was fresh and the belacan was not overpowering.

Honeydew and sago with milk. Not too sweet, very refreshing but too small of a portion.

Overall, they serve very nice food. Will return, for sure. :)

This is our second or third time here at this Hakka restaurant. Their food is free of MSG. :)

I love sweet potatoes in ginger soup!

And theirs was very good, soft sweet potatoes and yam in the ginger soup which wasn't too strong.

The reason I came here was this lei cha rice. I used to eat this when I was young.

But I couldn't find it elsewhere anymore. And the price difference is huge!

Hello hawkers, why not introduce this healthy meal?

Lei cha is a tea created with a mix of tea leaves and herbs that are pounded together with various roasted nuts, seeds and grains. (Thanks Wiki) And when we eat it with rice, it is called lei cha rice.

Pork soup. Not the tastiest we had but hey, Ying Ker Lou food are free of MSG!

I guess everyone knows about this restaurant. We came here a few times with our families. It has been quite some time since our last visit so we came here for dinner one night. :)

Timeless settings with very dim lighting. Suitable for romantic dinners. ;)

The servers' sailor uniform together with the interior and its deco creates the atmosphere of a ship.

Bun with butter.

Carrot juice with milk. Nice and fresh.

Salad with thousand island dressing. I love the tomatoes! :)

The seafood chowder here is a MUST HAVE. Lots of seafood inside a delicious thick broth.

Tomyum soup. Also nice with lots of seafood in it.

Mixed grilled. I think chicken, beef, bacon and sausage? Haha. Delicious.

Sizzling phoenix combo of tiger prawns and chicken. WJ's favourite since young.

As quoted from WJ, "Everything here is nice." :)

So. This is our second time here. The first was during Valentine's Day if I'm not wrong. :p

We just wanted to try somthing different...

Authentic German sausages!

Watermelon milkshake was YUMMILICIOUS! I would for sure have this again the next time.

Pork burger with bacon and cheese. Delicious.

Peppercorn pork sausages. Too peppery for my liking. But I liked the vege and mashed potato.

Should have gone with the waitress's recommendation of Neapolitan pork sausages.

That was the one we had last time in our combo meal. Juicy and flavourful. Will get that the next visit.

And apple struddle with vanilla ice cream. I like the pastry heh.

The first few bites was nice and all but I couldn't go further as I'm not fond of baked apples!

I've lost the images of the first time eating here. :( But I remember that we had a combo of a few pork sausages. We also had Roesti which is a German signature dish but I felt that it was just like hash browns lol! I love hash browns but I don't think this is worth the price. We also had Spaetzli which is their homemade egg noodles. This tasted like plain flour... Very plain. If you happen to come here, just get their authentic German sausages. Burgers won't hurt too. :)

We were working again during the weekends and the food here was so limited! There were only fast food outlets outside and two hawker centres at the end of the shoplots. We were lazy to walk far so we just ate here which was located at the ground floor even though it was a little pricey.

Lotus and peanut soup. Not bad.

Nasi lemak with ayam rendang I think. WJ hated it lol.

There are much better nasi lemaks out with much cheaper prices.

Kung po chicken with rice was delicious!

Lots of onions and ginger with tasty gravy on top of steaming rice inside a basket.

And this was the kam heong chicken. Also nice, a lot of gravy with steaming rice.

Others we ate was curry kuew teow and butter chicken rice, sponsored by our BOSS also known as WJ's parents hehehe. Thanks aunty and uncle! :p I liked my curry kuew teow but WJ didn't like his butter chicken rice.

Snowflake @ Pavilion and Sungei Wang

We passed by this kiosk in Pavilion many times and everytime there were people lining up.

Out of curiosity, we gave them a try. We didn't know what to order so we just picked this.

Taroball series with pearls, red beans and grass jelly. We didn't like this, not a single bit.

BUT. After many months of the same observation of the crowd...

We decided to give them another try. We went for their bestseller (popular choice), cold.

We also threw in an extra cup of creamer which means two cups of creamer in a bowl of snowflake.

And it was the best combination ever.

The ice was adequately sweetened and creamy. The grass jelly was soft and easy to eat.

The taroballs were the yummiest in the bowl! I love the sweet potato ones. (orange coloured)

We always have this at Snowflake. Now we get the picture. :)

We were walking by this restaurant that serves pork ribs and suddenly Singapore's Tony Roma's baby back ribs came into mind! Those dreamy ribs. Since it's hard to find good pork ribs here, we gave them a try.

Very nice country touch to the interior.

Chocolate milkshake that seems pale but was yummy. :D

Their seafood chowder looks plain but was delicious!

Tasty and creamy soup with lots of fish and seafood.

WJ fished out a fillet haha.

DELICIOUS! (Spot Chatime over there lol)

Tadaa! The signature BBQ sticky bones and steak combo.

The smoked and grilled pork ribs was delicious! The meat was tender, it just comes off the bones. And the BBQ sauce was yummy! Surprisingly, the steak was good too. We opted for medium well done and it was tender and juicy. However, between this sticky bones and Tony Roma's baby backs, I'll go for the latter. Then again, we couldn't get them here. As for the steak, I'll go with Morganfield's. Tony Roma's tend to undercook them even with well done.

Fresh oysters and jellyfish. LOVE the jellyfish. I only ate one haha. Eeks.

Room Eighteen Restaurant @ Times Square

We passed by this uniquely named restaurant several times but never ate here. This time we didn't know where to eat so we came here for dinner. They serve healthy dishes amongst other common chinese food.

Onion soup was mediocre. The best we've had was at Delicious.

Iced honey lemon drink.

Xiao long bao!

Theirs are really special with a hole at the top for us to suck the juices out and it works well!

I love xiao long baos with ginger and vinegar. However, I'll go for Din Tai Fung's one over this.

Siu mai dim sum here was FANTASTIC. The pork meat was tender and flavourful. Delicious!

Udon with soy sauce chicken drumstick - delicious! Soft udons in tasty soup.

Again, the chicken meat was so tender and the humble soy sauce fragrance made it a winner.

Spring chicken soup with wanton. The soup was tasty and nutritious but the chicken was dry.

Slow down, slow down. :p

I also like their chili prawn paste. It tasted like the ones I had in Hong Kong.

It went well with all the dishes!

Manhattan Fish Market @ Sunway Pyramid and Pavilion

We've been here a few times for what else, but their seafood. :)

At Sunway Pyramid.

We wanted to have the usual flaming prawns platter but wrongly ordered the grilled seafood platter.

The grilled prawns and garlic herbs rice are almost plain without flaming.

And this is with mussels where as the former is with oysters which we prefer.

And we came here for the Manhattan flaming prawns last week.

Mushroom and onion soup that comes in the set was delicious!

I love the huge bits of mushrooms and onions and the soup was tasty.

They have new staff that are mostly foreigners. They are so efficient and hardworking!

I like their tiramisu but this time it was too sweet and thick.

At Pavilion.

We had the student set of seafood and fries. Just average.

Not two persons but three! We reckon. We have plenty of left overs every time.

Ayam Penyet Ria @ Sunway Pyramid

We LOVE ayam penyets but the AP Ayam Penyet outlet at my place closed down :( so when we were at Pyramid, we gave Ayam Penyet Ria a try.

Iced milk tea. Tasted different from the one at AP. They probably used the Indonesian teh botol.

I remember having this during my time at Sunway Uni but it tasted like sweaty socks, no offense!

Of course, the dishes would be nothing without the chili.

Here, we had to take the chili ourselves from the large pot.

The ayam penyet was really disappointing. It was very small and not as tasty as AP's.

The crumbs too were huge and not as crispy and tasty as AP's.

On the bright side, the lele (catfish) was large and tasty.

Sadly, the tempes were disappointing too. They were tougher and not as flavourful as AP's.

The portion of the rice was rather small too.

We regretted not going over to AP Ayam Penyet at Sunway Mentari Court when it was so near!

At least we know now which is better.

Poon Kee Dessert @ Mahkota Cheras

Let me introduce to you my favourite traditional dessert place at my area! Poon Kee. They also have other outlets.

WJ's red bean and my wheat corn desserts. I've never been a fan of red beans!

But I LOVE their black glutinous rice dessert.

Smooth, creamy yet light wheat corn dessert with yummy grains.

At times I also have their glutinous rice balls with peanut fillings in ginger soup.

And I like their durian balls!

I don't like durians other than those right from the fruit but I can go with this.

Crunchy on the outside with soft pastry and fragrant durian paste inside.

I also like their honeydew and sago lolo, lotus seed with white fungus, herbal tea egg and durian roll.

Oh, and their chee cheong fun!

Mu Jin Jang Korean BBQ @ Ampang

Okay, I've lost count of the number of times we've been here. The boss knows us quite well hee. We've tried a few Korean restaurants but their food seems to appeal most to our taste buds. The boss and the chefs are Korean. Authentic Korean food is the way to go! :)

We like their many delicious appetisers. Good combination of sweet, spicy, salty and sour.

He comes here more often than I do and eats good stuff with his family.

The perfect kimchi chigae. Many good pork cutlets with delicious kimchi in spicy and flavourful soup.

Yook gae jang (beef stew) is very good too. SPICY!!

And we LOVE the samgyeopsal (pork belly bbq) here.

Tasty, crispy sides, tender and odourless good quality pork.

Delicious!

Fresh, crispy greens. Perfect with the samgyeopsal.

And I love the soybean paste and sesame oil dips! They add very nice flavours and fragrance.

This is how you eat it! I think. NICE.

I also love their rice cake. Eat them while their warm, chewy and delicous. The rice cake also comes with fishcakes, greens and an egg in tasty, spicy gravy. You can look for the pic on my other posts.

And we always buy Korean ice creams from this Korean mart at the corner.

Look Out Point @ Mahkota Cheras

There are few western restaurants here and this is one of them. They open until the wee hours so if we crave for western food after 10pm it'll be here, otherwise it'll be Susan's Bistro. I know it's unhealthy but we sleep late! :p

Mushroom soup with garlic bread on the side. Not one of the best we've tried.

I'll usually get the lamb chop. I like how they cook the meat.

And the black pepper gravy used to be good. But few last times it was way too salty.

WJ will usually get the chicken chop.

And we like their mashed potato eventhough the presentation may raise questions. HAHA

SADLY, they have closed their restaurant down recently.

Looks like we've to go to the hilltop one the next time.

Rendezvous Steak Garden @ Kampung Pandan

We came here to give them a try after my dad's friend recommended this place.

Iced mocha with vanilla ice cream. Average.

Escargot with garlic and cheese sauce. I prefer Susan's Bistro ones.

Breaded chicken was good.

Fish fillet with garlic sauce was good too. Succulent dory fillet with fragrant garlic sauce.

Tomyum soup, we've tasted much better ones. But there was many seafood in it.

Their chocolate fondue was TERRIBLE.

The mug was so warm (the flame didn't burn out) the chocolate was boiling.

And with just biscuit sticks, cheap marshmallows with grape and apple filling (ugh)

and guavas (replaced with banana which they ran out of), RM16.90 is totally not worth the price.

Overall, their food is average but I would really consider returning as their service was horrible. They provided us a ringer on the table but nobody attended to us eventhough we could hear the ringing at the counter. They were just standing there, chatting and giggling. Besides, we spotted a few large cockroaches crawling under the tables at this poorly lit place.

Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh @ Mahkota Cheras and Centro Mall

Pao Xiang introduces a different kind of bak kut teh where they serve meats in very thick broth.

We had the first try at Mahkota Cheras' outlet.

And next at Centro Mall.

The prices are on the higher side but the meats are of good and larger cuts and the broth is tasty.

Yau char kuai tastes good with the broth absorbed.

A meal here is satisfying but could be costly. I prefer the cheaper and common kind where we can savour the soup. :)

This restaurant is quite famous with the locals here. My mom and WJ's dad came here before. They serve many kinds of chinese dishes.

One of their popular dishes is this curry fish head.

The curry was tasty and aromatic and there were many other dishes in the claypot besides the fish.

Vegetables with oyster sauce. A little too oily.

We also tried their pork ribs with guinness but the meat was tough.

We have yet to try other dishes. :)

So I was craving for Teo Chew porridge few weeks ago and went to Pudu looking for a good restaurant. We drove passed this restaurant. The interior seems nice and there were quite many people inside so we gave them a try.

Braised pork belly with mui choi, red stew duck, lotus roots and peanuts soup, braised egg, salted egg,

preserved vegetables, braised peanuts, tanyuan glutinous rice balls...

I like the tangyuan very much. It has small plain glutinous rice balls and large ones with black sesame fillings. Everything was delicious and probably the best teochew food I had but for the koay chiap. Eventhough it was good, it was no where near Penang's Kimberley Street duck koay chiap. Then again... :)

Their dry chili pan mee is really the best around. I eat it without the chili flakes coz I like it simple.

Then she had another of her favourite, barbequed pork ribs. Yes she can eat a lot!

Wei Jen's claypot rice with seafood. The claypot was so hot the food actually burnt on the sides.

They have to eat the food superrr slow. Poor popo, she had the same thing.

Rice with unagi and abalone. This is with double cheese. I prefer the italian red sauce.

We came to Viva Home for the first time to shop for a bedside lamp. This home deco centre is similar to Ikea. Anyway, we haven't had anything and were starving so we randomly entered this Japanese restaurant.

Nimbling on edamame beans. :)

Nice interior.

Their chawanmushi was a letdown. Nothing special to it, tasted just like plain steamed egg.

Forgotten what is this called but was bland too.

Their service was very slow. We kept reminding them to bring out our orders. And when we thought it couldn't get worse, they didn't serve Wei Jen's one. We reminded them many times but nothing came up. For those of you who knew how slow I eat, they haven't serve his food even after I finished my whole bowl of soba. That was the straw. We paid the bill and left. So much for choosing this restaurant when we're starving.

You can opt to eat inside the house too.

The satay meats are large, juicy, tender, tasty and the sauce is deliciously spicy with large peanut crumbs.

The soft, warm ketupat with fresh onions and cucumbers is a plus too.

Their delicious mee rebus with thick and spicy soup! It's quite expensive at RM6 for a small portion.

This restaurant opened not long ago. Came here as a random choice for dinner to give their pan mee a try.

Honey lemon and honey milk which I like! I don't think they use fresh milk though.

Dry chili pan mee. It was spicy and good but for this kind we prefer Kin Kin Pan Mee! :)

Pan Mee with prawn wanton. I like the noodles but the soup was too salty.

They have a variety of pan mees and other foods and nice drinks. The prices are reasonable too so we'll give other pan mees a try the next visit. :)

I think this is the second or third time we're having this.

Their potatoes are so good! Yummy fries with pickle mayo.

The combination of the steamy fluffy fries and warm tasty sauce is so addictive.

Potato balls - crunchy outside and steamy inside. Like good hash browns. :)

For those of you who may not know, this is the flagship restaurant of Eu Yan Sang. They serve healthy and nutritious food which also is free of MSG, preservatives and colourings.

Apple cider vinegar with honey. This is really good for those coughing.

Rooibos tea had a unique aroma to it.

Nutritious double-boiled chicken soup.

I like their herbal eggs very much! The shells are lightly cracked all around for the tea to seep in.

I always finish up the bittersweet tea.

The spicy soup with rice was mediocre.

Hor fun with pork ribs was good. Soft noodles with tender pork ribs in delicious soup.

Wei Jen's favourite - chicken curry with vegetables. But the portion was small.

Pork ribs in broth (bak kut teh?) haha.

Noodles with fish in milk based soup, tasty!

What is special about their food is that they are served on a mini stove.

The flame will continue heating the food for some time until it burns out.

When we were little my parents used to bring us to Leisure Mall for movies and we would always come here for dinner. They serve really good dishes. Wei Jen and I didn't know what else to eat here so we came here lol.

His curry mee which was delicious and he liked it. Good coz he's the pickiest eater I've known. :p

My fried noodles with pork and vegetables (I think). Delicious gravy!

I'd have xiao long bao everywhere I go haha. Unfortunately theirs wasn't as good as others.

The soup has leaked out through the holes in the skin. Nothing to shout about. :(

But their leek dumplings are very delicious! Goes perfectly with ginger and vinegar.

For their dish I love the ma po taufu ever since I was young! The bean chili sauce was so spicy yums.

Lean pork meat with vegetables also delicious.

Their guai ling gou was good too.

We came across this unique kiosk that mainly sells soups and you can choose to have them inside a bowl or inside a farmer's bread that's edible. It's the first of its kind so we stopped by and had a try.

We first had clam chowder inside a farmer's bread. OMG the soup was surprisingly delicious!! :D

We only saw the instructions for eating this after finishing the soup.

(Look, Chatime over there hahaha.)

So we had another mushroom soup and ate it the right way haha.

The bread is dry and a little hard but it absorbs the soup well and the combination is simply delicious!

Wei Jen doesn't like the taste of the bread though heh.

And the other day we had their new Meaty Mexicana and it was again, amazingly DELICIOUS with chunks of beef in savoury soup!!

They also have pasta which is quite small of a portion but delicious. This is the cheese one.

And this, the tomato one. Everything here is delicios!

Do give them a try if you happen to be at Times Square. :)

We prefer to eat over there while the food's steaming hot!

But their double decker crust was disappointing!

The supposedly crunchy crusts were soggy and the cheese in between was bland and watery. Ugh.

I love their onion rings with cheese and garlic powder! So tasty.

And I love their breadstix even more! Salty and crunchy outside, fluffy and steamy inside.

Everytime I come here I wonder if this man is Encik Shahbudin who taught me chemistry in Form Five.

La mian in sweet and sour soup was good too.
I liked the thick and savoury soup which went well with their handmade noodles.

The minced beef and sauce is tasty and delicious!

And they have this special chili in a pot which goes really well with the noodles.

I like the mixed beef.

Melted marsmallows in hot chocolate wasn't that nice. Too sweet and marshmallows so small. :(

Onion soup to die for! Kinda pricey for soups but worth it.

Sweet caramelised onions in tasty soup beneath a cheese pastry which was a delicious combination!

Spaghetti with pine nuts and zucchini. First time having this kind. Special in a nice way.

Wei Jen just loves simple olio. I think Susan's Bistro still has the tastiest aglio olio. :)

Okay, I've forgotten how many times I've been here but this could be my last. The pork odour is overpowering (we left them aside) and the portion is not worth the price. I assume people come here for the fun in cooking the meats which frankly speaking I have doubts in. I'm not sure whether the thawed blood-oozing meats are thoroughly cooked and safe for consumption... I also don't like how the surface of the pan turns black after the fats are carbonised which is bad when consumed. That said, this is subjected to my personal opinion. :)

My favourite place for snow ice! Have been coming here since secondary school days but this Japanese dessert seems to be sprouting everywhere now. :) This dessert is made of ice so it is low-fat compared to ice cream. And it melts in your mouth... :D

Penang Food Trip !

FINALLY, I've some time to update my blog! It's 2.30am now. Super busy these days and so many pictures piling up again NOOO! D: Wei Jen wanted to try the good and famous Penang food so he hired me as his tour guide coz I go there every year for CNY. But to be frank, I've never tried half the famous food there coz during CNY, they not only hike the price but the area will be mad crowded. So I did my homework and came up with an agenda as always. Anyway don't read this if you haven't taken your meal. Seriously.

It took us 3 hours to reach Penang from KL hoho.

Penang Bridge. The haze was so thick. O.O

We stopped by Super Tanker Hawker Centre for some light meal.

My family always eat here during CNY.

I ordered the fishballs I was craving for but it turned out different and I got so upset
coz I'm picky with fishballs so WJ ate them all. :(

And we had oyster porridge but WJ didn't like it.

We were about to leave when I spotted the stall that sells those fishballs,
just next to the stall we bought the wrong ones LOL!

Tadaa! 3 different kinds of soft fishballs in tasty soup.

And before checking into the hotel we had Ah Leng's Char Koay Teow!

The prawns were fresh, huge and sweet and there were lots of eggs and taugehs.
Although it could be too spicy for some, I like it that way. PERFECT.

And we checked into Naza Talyaa Hotel which is just before Tanjung Bungah Hotel.

Prawn paste chee cheong fun! One of my faves here but WJ didn't like it.

Lobak. Quite expensive but so-so.

We had time on our hands so we visited the Butterfly Farm.

It sounds boring but it was really interesting and worth the visit! More than just butterflies.

A view quite scary! Didn't realise it was newly opened until my popo told me.

The famous Air Itam Asam Laksa. Really lived up to its name!

I loved the strong lemon grass fragrance and prawn paste.

Then we went for the Sister's Char Koay Teow at Lorong Selamat.

It was quite good but overpriced and I prefer Ah Leng's one for the spice and sweet prawns.

Another ochien at a nearby restaurant that I always have during CNY.

It was so delicious I had some before taking a picture haha.

We went to try the famous Tuai Pui Curry Mee at Weld Quay but it was closed.

However, the dessert stall next to it sells good and refreshing Ai Yu Bing!

Later we went to get the famous cendol at Penang Road.

We just stopped by and took 2 packets away to the hotel heh.

WJ took a shot of the old buildings.

Now the cendol looks expensive haha. Plain but yummy.

After that we went to Him Heang at Burma Road to get tambun biscuits a.k.a tau sar peah!

10 whole boxes. 5 for me, 5 for WJ.

And we witnessed the beautiful sunset. :)

And for dinner we went to Kimberly Street for the famous duck koay chiap.

Okay, I really don't like ducks but this was so good!

Tender duck meat with soft and wide flat rice flour noodles omg.

And then we went to Song River Cafe at Gurney Drive for more food..

Loh mee. I liked the strong vinegar taste but WJ didn't like it.

The best fish otak-otak I've ever had! Watery and spicy with fish bits and vege, so tasty.

And delicious ochien with oysters so large I didn't dare to eat. :p

Fried chicken wings with sweet crispy skin.

Then we wanted to have the famous Kayu Nasi Kandar but there's one in KL so we tried

Line Clear Nasi Kandar as WJ's uncle recommended.

Kayu is definitely better.

But the poppadom was good!

The fresh milk was too diluted..

Passed by Chulia Street so I had more of the lovely apoms hehehe.

Stopped by Gurney Drive for a stroll.

And the next morning, we had the famous roti canai at Transfer Road.

You can see the egg inside. Sorry lah, I made it look so ugly.

We were just in time before they close but the curries were sold out.

And we went to Weld Quay for Tuai Pui Curry Mee.

Forgotten to tell them NOT to include the coagulated pork blood.

It was also good but too much santan for our liking.

And we returned to KL..

Had turkey ham sandwiches at Dunkin Donuts at a rest area LOL

And also a Dunkin Donut, of course. :)

Singapore 2011

So we went for a three days trip to Singapore from 29/06 to 01/07 and it sure was exhilarating! It was my first time in Singapore (I should jump off the building right now) because my family never had time for this. We've planned out everything from hotel to places and public transportation and got much help from Wei Jen's cousin sister, Yee Lian who studied and is now working there. Thanks so much sista! :) So for those wanting to go for a trip there you could use this as your guide haha. Feast your eyes on the photos!

Entering Singapore

First thing we realised everyone was driving at a constant speed of 80km/hr! WJ was happy speeding on the rightmost lane and we suddenly felt awkward.. So we joined the queue on the middle lane lol. We saw many speed cameras on the lamposts. And the traffic laws are quite different from ours, you don't have to stop at red lights if there are no cars obstructing your way. It's based on judgement or something like that.

We lost our way but finally managed to pick YL up from her workplace. She brought us to check into the NUS guest room - like a hotel but relatively cheap and right in front of the bus terminal! Only current or former students can book rooms muaha.

DAY ONE

We went to this popular Provence bakery at Holland Street, their breads are very good!

Later WJ and I went scouting for food and ended up in a hawker centre.

Our food was horrible. We took a few spoonfulls and left the place.

Later YL told us it was a halal hawker centre haha. But I'm not relating that to the food.

Their hawker centres - much cleaner and proper

Holland street - They have this zig zag lines everywhere, so cute!

From NUS, we took a bus to the Merlion statue. It's much cheaper and convenient to take buses because parking and ERP rates kills. Plus, the buses here are so efficient and clean! Contrary to most speculations, the locals here are so friendly and helpful! WJ and I were cursing this bus driver who signalled 'NO' and drove off when we wanted to get up the bus but this young guy explained that we were at the terminal (last station) so they were taking a break before starting off again. While waiting for the next bus we threw him more touristy questions hahaha.

So comfy and clean. NOW vision our Malaysian buses.

We missed the station and went down the next one so we had to walk, walk, and walk.
We kept asking around how to go to the Merlion and they'd just said 'walk straight'.
I think we've walked 5km hahaha.

Walked passed a lane filled with seafood restaurants.

I noticed some Harry's bar everywhere in Singapore, always filled with foreigners.

Tired. Tak larat lah, kita bukan orang Singapura.

Took a rest with some Wall's ice-cream bread yums!

With a landscape like Singapore you can literally take a break anywhere.

(It's very easy to get around in Singapore as they've listed the buses and stops at every station.)

We had the chocolate fondue with churros.

The chocolate was perfect - warm and thick but the churros were a little dissapointing.

And we went to the popular Lau Pa Sat Festival Market for some hawker food.

We were tired and didn't have strong appetite so we just tried the o'chien.

It turned out to be awesome! Didn't expect it to be that good like those in Penang.

The night life isn't that vibrant compared to KL as most shops close around 9-9.30pm.

We hopped onto the top of the double decker bus yay!

And then YL called us up for supper hehe.

Went to a chinese restaurant nearby NUS and we shared dumplings..

(I think the chinese ginger leek dumpling is the same as the japanese gyoza, no?)

Siew long bao, a bowl of pan mee and pearl milk teas.

DAY TWO

We planned to get up early for Universal Studios but it POURED HEAVILY and the bathroom's water pipe burst! We called for maintenance, took a quick shower, ran through the rain and got onto a bus to Vivocity (beside Harbour Front Mall) and had lunch before adjourning to USS.

Oh I left my umbrella in the bus. Back in KL I left a pair of shoes in a bus too.

I love giving them souvenirs.

And we had lunch in the popular Dian Xiao Er

Braised duck in Angelica herbs. Look at the crispy skin OOOH MUST HAVE!

At the entrance you can get a brochure with the map, rides locations and the stated time for all shows. It was really helpful. We managed to watch all the shows and hopped on most of the rides albeit some technical problems due to the rain. I counted the rain as a blessing because it reduced the heat there hehe!

I hate roller coasters! But I had to get on them. -,-
Hate the feeling when the coaster dives gargh!

You either scream or keep silent. I was left SPEECHLESS at the end of both rides.

Finally open! The ride has been closed for some time due to the rain.

The boat. I was fully protected by the poncho but when the boat dived my hood opened. Beautiful.

Back to Far Far Away for Shrek Adventure in 4D

We thought it would be so boring but it was exciting and fun!

We went for the last show at New York. How they reinvent storm. Nice but short.

YL picked us up and we headed to the last KTM station. It was such a coincidence that it was the last day of their operation and we were passing by. Malaysia handed the land over to Singapore.

There were many reporters and regular passengers.

Goodbye.

And we went to Tony Roma's. YL treated us for a superb dinner!

I also want a cousin like her, hehehe.

Tadaa! You can't have these perfectly barbequed baby pork ribs in Malaysia.

I've never tasted such tender, delicate and tasty pork before!

Couldn't finish up haha.

Then we took a stroll at Orchard Road.

I thought only Malaysia has the same boutique within 5km radius.

All their malls are alike Mid Valley Megamall or Sunway Pyramid.

Wanted to know the difference between Malaysia's and Singapore's mamaks hahaha.

We call it roti canai, they call it prata. Tasted like roti canai...just a little chewier.

I hope this can also be implemented in Malaysia's mamaks and all open-air restaurants!

No offense but nobody should smoke when people are eating near them.

Can you find a chinese making roti canai in Malaysia? Hahaha pro.

DAY THREE

We started the day with visiting Haw Par Villa. Very interesting place to explore about Buddhism, moralities and the folklores.

The location map. It's very easy to get around as the place isn't too huge.

They have many celestial statues like Guan Yin Ma

Okay, the scary section on the ten levels of hell. *gulp*

And we headed to Bugis Street to grab some cheap garb.

Went to buy Koi pearl milk teas first. Look at the queue!

Good but I still prefer Cha Time hehe. The have the chewiest pearls ever.

Forgotten to take a picture of Bugis Street hehe. It was a dissapointing visit. The cheapest piece was S$10 which converted, is about RM25. We can get them at cheaper prices here plus there's a much wider range to choose from at Times Square and Sungei Wang.

We had lunch at Noodle Star, nearby Bugis Street. WJ blowing a kiss haha!

Empty handed and unsatisfied, we went to Vivocity's Cotton On and I grabbed a nice top HAHA.

After that we picked YL up and went to a good hawker centre to eat before heading to KL.

I've never liked ducks but the ducks here are fantastic!
It was so good WJ ordered another plate.

Pontian wanton mee - really good! You can get them at Sungei Wang's third floor.

Make sure you get these too! The best fried wantons ever omg omg delicious!!

YL followed us back to KL. We bought some famous Chang Kee curry puffs to bring home.

I've gotten myself a new business laptop, the Dell Latitude E6420 because of its anti-glare screen and 2MP full HD webcam (most important lol). With tri-metal casing and other awesome specs. MacBook is fine except for the iritatingly different and problematic Mac versions of Microsoft softwares (Messenger, Skype, Microsoft Office, etc.) which I constantly use and compatibility issues. If only I were in the US.
